Eagles Officially Promote Brian Johnson To Offensive Coordinator

This was a move that was just a matter of “when” not “if”. The Eagles will officially hire quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson as the teams new offensive coordinator. This per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter per his twitter account

Johnson was a fast rising assistant with the Eagles. Initially hired from the University of Florida where he served as the Gators offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Nick Sirianni brought Johnson in to be the teams quarterbacks coach and work with young QB Jalen Hurts.

Johnson has a history with Hurts, having played for Hurts’ father in Texas. So there was definitely familiarity between the two. While the first season was up and down, Hurts’ game seemed to improve when Johnson moved to the sideline. He played a big role in Hurts’ MVP like season which resulted in a trip to the Super Bowl last season.

The Eagles are now looking for a defensive coordinator after Jonathan Gannon was hired by the Arizona Cardinals to be their new head coach. The Eagles are in the second round of interviews and recently interviewed Seahawks defensive assistant Sean Desai who has local ties being a Temple University product.

The Eagles will likely want to have their defensive coordinator in place for the upcoming NFL combine, especially considering the team holds two first round picks including the 10th pick in the upcoming draft.

The Eagles already saw two of their targets leave for other teams as Vic Fangio took the job in Miami. (although to be fair, there wasnt an opening in Novacare when Fangio took the gig.) and Vance Joseph did the rare move of taking a coordinator job in the same place you were once a head coach.
