Casanova Co-Defendant Gets 17.25 Years for Shooting Crip on His Orders

A federal judge just handed down a 17.25-year prison term for a Gorilla Stone member who pleaded guilty to shooting a Crip on Casanova’s orders during a crowded party.

Jarrett “Jayecee” Crisler was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Philip Halpern, the same judge scheduled to sentence Casanova. Crisler pleaded guilty to use of a firearm in an attempted murder and conspiracy to traffic firearms.

Crisler, 27, shot two people at Casanova’s 33rd birthday party in Miami, after Crisler identified one as a rival Crip gang member and asked, “You wanna die tonight?” according to federal prosecutors. Crisler allegedly later discussed the shooting with another Gorilla Stone member, texting, “I only shot twice meaning I ain’t miss a shot,” and that he was the “Greatest shot in the world.”

Later, when they realized the victims both survived, the Gorilla Stone member told Crisler, “attempts don’t count we gotta go finish that lol,” according to prosecutors.

In the sentencing submission asking for 17-19 years for Crisler, prosecutors wrote that Casanova’s status as a “famous rapper” benefitted the gang, and that “Gorilla Stone devoted a substantial amount of time and resources to protecting Casanova and keeping him happy, including arranging for him to have bodyguards.”

In a motion asking for a mandatory minimum of 10 years, Crisler’s attorneys described him as a family man who survived a traumatic childhood and left college to pursue a boxing career in his 20s.

Crisler submitted a letter to the judge in which he said he was hopeful he would be able to be out of prison for the sake of his children.

“I will never act before I think things clearly through,” he wrote, later adding, “There is not a night that goes by that I wish I could have one, not went or two, walked to the vehicle and minded my own business but unfortunately life does not have a pause or rewind button and I am now paying a hefty cost.”
